Well, that's rather insulting to assume that I would mean that
you _believe_ anything on CNN, but it's a least reference. I'll let
one go.

Actually, I believe that ECHELON and the intelligence community's
ongoing efforts to collect information will not be affected in
the slightest.

I'm not kidding myself on this one -- having once worked in the
military for authorities at Ft. George G. Meade, MD., I'm quite
aware of their mission, intent, and capabilities. I've also worked
on the other side of the aisle, so-to-speak, for an ISP (Sprint)
and a hardware vendor (Cisco).

The point I'm trying to make here is that while the Patriot Act
made it convenient for LEA's to use 'National Security Letters' _do_
give authorities the avenue to forego judicial scrutiny:

It's not like I'm making this stuff up...

So you would prefer I take the word of CNN over actually reading the law
myself? That seems a rather odd approach to me.

Perhaps you wouldn't mind explaining which of the 16 sections that are
expiring contradicts what I said, namely that none of those can be done
without judicial oversight or review except for section 501.
