Is there a way to setup a scan and be notified of an intruding pc that is physically plugged into the network?
There's an excellent product doing this through passive+active network discovery and fingerprinting: www.insightix.com It also features network topology diagrams through SNMP queries to the switches, and lots of other useful diagnostic stuff. It can even be complemented with NAC capabilities. You can even download a fully functional trial from there.
