Well, you really cannot get away from the single point of failure if the leased lines are from the same ISP, unless they are offering you 2 different POP's on different grids. If it is two different ISP's, I would still be surprised if they are not on the same power grid, but better scenario. The two WIC modules reduce the cost and the point in getting two leased lines. Your more common points of failure are going to be an ISP, which the two WIC's work, Local Power, which two WIC's or Two routers don't work and does not matter, Hardware Failure, most common and now nothing works. If a router, module, fan, etc fails it is better to have a backup. You will have to run a routing protocol to get real redundancy, having weighted static routes to switch traffic to the backup ISP, or put a manual route change in to work when you need the backup for the two ISP scenario. Always give yourself as much redundancy as you can afford.

Hi guys, my company is having 2 leased lines internet connections and they were about to buy two routers to make them standby to each other, each with one of the internet connections, as they were discussing with some network consultant...he convinced them to reduce cost and put 2 wics in one router only each connected to the each internet connection instead of buying 2 routers....is that appropriate?? thanks alot Nad _______________________________________________ firewall-wizards mailing list firewall-wizards () listserv icsalabs com https://listserv.icsalabs.com/mailman/listinfo/firewall-wizards
