Oh there's not necessarily a point, I'm just whining. 8^)  I've just seen
many less cluefull people than yourself argue against distributors and end
up running some random linux v.b0rken kernel, missing security update as
well as stability updates.  Their maintenance costs are rather high, or
would be if they were capable of maintaining the setup they've saddled
themselves with, which they aren't.

I just took an ill-considered stab at disuading you from that path, were
you on it.
