Having a firewall at the absolute border isn't necessarily "bad".  It
really depends on the network, what you are trying to accomplish with
the firewall, and whether or not having it at the border will
accomplish your goal.  Maybe if you explained a bit about your
environment and why you think having a firewall at the border would be
bad, we could help you come up with more information.  It sounds like
you already have a reason or two and are looking for more reasons.
What are your current reasons for it being bad?
