I was wondering if there's any way to trace the geography(actual city orstate, province etc.) of a person's static IP address. I know that most have dynamic (changing) IP's but if I were to somehow obtaintheir staticIP, could I then begin an amateur trace to their physical location?Try: http://cello.cs.uiuc.edu/cgi-bin/slamm/ip2ll
I would say that this thing is rather unreliable. I tried out a few IP addresses throughout the world, many of them could not be found at all, one address in Stockholm was reported to be in Amsterdam. When typing in a hostname, it autmatically reported the host to be located in the country for the particular top domain. ex: this-domain-does-not-exist.non-existent-subdomain.uk London another-non-existent-domain.se Stockholm It seemed to work fine for .COM domains in US, for example it could find the correct city of our company web server. I would rather go to http://www.ripe.int/db/whois.html, or the internic for non-european IP adresses and find it manually.
