Interesting that it took a few weeks for this topic to filter over from
the other, old firewalls mailing list. Interesting more so, that folks
are still advocating that someone else, mainly their isp's take
responsibility for filtering for them, rather then taking on that
responsibility themselves. Course, then again, folks ask the list
maintainers here and on the other lists over and over all the time to
filter content for them, those darned delete keys and short fingers sure
get to be real problems. Then again, that's one of the major problems our
society seems to be facing these last few decades and those to come, who
should take responsibility for *my* actions, since *I* certainly don't
want it. There is something to be said for dictatorships....

Thanks,

I agree with both sides of everyone's arguments. But everyone seems to be
looking at security as denying/allowing access to/from the home user.

This needn't be the case.

ISPs could implement intrusion detection systems to trap and block attacks
BEFORE they reach the home user. This wouldn't necessarily impair a users
access to Internet resources. But would provide the home user with some
level of protection if they can't afford a firewall or other security
mechanisms
themselves.
