National Cyber Security Awareness Month 2016 begins in 9 days!

Here are 5 things you should do to get ready and show your institution’s support during the month of October.

1) Save the date<http://www.educause.edu/conferences-events/online-events/educause-live-webinars> for a free 1-hour
webinar on October 11, 1-2 pm ET
What are the scariest new attack techniques in 2016? What are the top human risks organizations are currently facing?
Join the head of the Internet Storm Center (Johannes Ullrich) and the director of SANS Securing The Human (Lance
Spitzner) to discover how you can prepare for threats posed by technologies and people, and leverage that knowledge to
create a more “cyberaware” culture on campus. Registration is now available.

2) Become a NCSAM Champion<https://staysafeonline.org/ncsam/champions/>
Complete the online registration form and pledge to take action in our community. Last year we had over 100
institutions sign up. Help us beat that record this year! (It’s free and only takes a few minutes to sign up.)

3) Bookmark our EDUCAUSE Review blog column, Security Matters<http://er.educause.edu/columns/security-matters>
We will be posting new guest blogs related to the 2016 NCSAM weekly themes starting on September 30 and continuing
throughout the month of October.

4) Use the hashtag #CyberAware to promote NCSAM
Share advice, events, activities, and links to resources on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #CyberAware. Don’t
forget to check out NCSA’s social media page<https://staysafeonline.org/ncsam/get-involved/social-media> for profile
images, suggested posts, memes, and other free promo materials.

5) Join the weekly #ChatSTC conversation
NCSA is hosting weekly #ChatSTC Twitter chats during NCSAM. Join @StaySafeOnline and @HEISCouncil at 3 pm ET/noon PT
every Thursday (October 6, 13, 20, 27, and November 3).

We hope you’ll continue to share your institution’s plans with us. We’re already hearing about some great new
campaigns! Find more resources on our NCSAM page: http://www.educause.edu/ncsam.

And please feel free to contact me with any questions or resources you might like to share.

Thank you,
Valerie
