We created a seperate "untrusted" zone for these devices. As far as accessing internal resources they have the same access as any external network would and are treated as such. --Phil ________________________________ From: The EDUCAUSE Security Constituent Group Listserv [SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] on behalf of Jeffrey Sabin [jeff.sabin () DRAKE EDU] Sent: Friday, September 11, 2015 10:40 AM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [SECURITY] The latest gaming consoles conundrum Hello everyone, As gaming consoles have evolved, so have the security risks. They have basically become a networked piece of hardware that when fully operational have both outbound and inbound ports open so it’s owner can communicate with a myriad of hosts, including other gamers. We are getting requests to open more of these ports which poses some challenges for us. While we want to provide our students with the best ‘home away from home’ experience as we can, we also have a responsibility to ensure we are protecting our University assets to the best of our ability. I am curious to know what others are doing in this space. I am not necessarily looking for a deep dive from a technical perspective but would like to know what sort of allowances you are providing for the latest game consoles on your respective networks. Thank you in advance.
