Teachers College, Columbia University seeks a Director of Information
Security.

The ISD will be responsible for developing an information security and risk
management function for the institution. Responsibilities include analyzing
risk and investigating, evaluating, planning, and managing implementation
of information security solutions to protect Teachers College assets,
resources and community members. The incumbent will coordinate security
efforts of the Computing and Information Services teams, investigate
incidents, and oversee information protection strategies across the
College. The Director of IS is responsible for developing, maintaining,
communicating, providing training for and enforcing the institution's
security policies.

Minimum requirements are:

* BA or BS degree, preferably in information technology.
*6 years in information technology with progressive leadership
responsibility.
*3 years of experience in Information Security.
*Strong technical knowledge in information security including:
operating system administration for Windows and UNIX servers,
desktop Windows and Mac systems,
application and database security,
network access control systems,
network and Internet security.
*Experience with policy development,
and legal and regulatory compliance.
*Experience applying investigative methodology.
*Project management skills.
*Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated
success in leading and influencing people at multiple levels within an
organization.
*Ability to handle confidential issues.
*Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team
environment.


Preferred qualifications:

*Masters degree.
*Formal training in project management.
*Coding skills in SQL, C, Java, Python or PERL.
*Information security certification.
*Higher education experience.

This is a new position to report to the CIO (me), and it does not have
staff. The IT department has 45 FT people, several of whom will be assigned
to security projects. We are just completing an outside security program
assessment which provides recommendations and a timeline for the
organizational and technical work to be undertaken. This is an opportunity
for an experienced professional with leadership skills to take on the key
responsibility to form a new program.
