Hi Steve -

We've been using Ghost to re-image around 700 of our classroom,
lecture halls and public site (library) machines on a regular schedule
over nights and weekends (approximately every two weeks) for many
years. Currently we use multicast for a bit over 1/2 of the machines,
and the others are unicast. For the most part it works fine, though
we occasionally hit a snag and need to actually visit a site to
correct a problem with the re-imaging. Typically the image clone
reload takes around 1 hour on 100 MB (or 3.5hrs on a 10 MB)
connection. Then the sysprep and reconfiguration scripts run which
take another 15 minutes or so.

We have also been running Windows 7 64-bit for the past year or so.

We are somewhat concerned that Symantec is dropping the Ghost product
line, and support for it is already weak. I'm curious if people have
switched to Clonezilla or FOG as a replacement for Ghost in this type
of environment.

We have used both Symantec Ghost and SCCM to image the labs.

We are trying to determine what process other schools are using to
image/upgrade/build computer labs and classrooms. We have a very
short window between the end of summer sessions and the start of
the fall semester. Any information you can provide would be very
much appreciated.

Thanks.
