Other – Barracuda Networks Backup Solution (http://www.barracudanetworks.com/ns/products/backup_overview.php). We have 2 appliances onsite and backups offsite. Appliances are doing real-time snapshots with replication to the offsite data centers We backup all data – Desktop and Documents directories (all stored on server – profile redirection), email, SharePoint, SQL Servers, and data servers (ERP is hosted and handled by the vendor) We do not archive anything at this point Yes, Yes, and Yes – They are in a 6 month rotation which means we have enough capacity to hold backups offsite for 6 months before they are deleted and the space reused ___________________________________ Charles Keeler Mitchell College Office of Information Technology Chief Technology Officer (860) 701-5254 From: "SCHALIP, MICHAEL" <mschalip () CNM EDU<mailto:mschalip () CNM EDU>> Reply-To: "SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU<mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU>" <SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU<mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU>> Date: Mon, 8 Aug 2011 13:09:30 -0400 To: "SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU<mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU>" <SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU<mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU>> Subject: [SECURITY] Who is doing "backups" and HOW are you doing backups?? Hi folks.....(I hope this is the right "group" - if not, point me in the right direction….) We finally moved to a split data center model - so we have network storage in geographically separated data centers now. So - we're operating under a hopeful premise that we can now do without a DLT/LTO tape library?? * What technology or methodology is your institution using for backups? * Tape? * DVD or CD? * Blu-ray? * Other? * What is your backup schedule like for institutional data and/or servers? * How often? * What type of data has to be backed? - * How do you handle "archiving"? * Do you provide any kind of "user level" backups? * Do you back up home directories?......how long do you keep them? * Do you back up all user e-mail?.....how long do you keep it? * Do you back up anything from the users' desktop?......how long do you keep it? Any data would be appreciated….. Thanks, Michael -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner<http://www.mailscanner.info/>, and is believed to be clean.
