We decided upon SMOP from http://turbo-it.com/ It's a barebones inexpensive self service password reset solution. So far it has been easy to install and maintain with our limited experience with it. We haven't purchased it yet, but this seems to be the best fit for us. I would have to talk to our Help Desk manager, but I believe within the first 3 weeks of us putting up the portal we had over half the student body register their questions. It has also cut down the number of helpdesk calls considerably. Works extremely well. We're looking for something a lot simpler, more bullet-proof, integrates with AD, non-open source (I'd like to be able call one place for support, rather than relying on distribution lists....;-).....any success stories out there? These questions are of the student's own design; however, we provide guidance and suggest they use passwords that are easy for them to remember, but hard to guess by someone else. How many questions do you require students to answer in order to reset their passwords? And any other relevant insight and wisdom would be appreciated as well.
