I have used Putty on the Windows side and the command-line OpenSSH with
RHEL/Fedora/Ubuntu and Mac OS X. If all you need is a SSH client, then
Putty "should" work across all of the platforms. It is available for
Windows and Linux - it is in both the Ubuntu (apt-get install putty) and
Fedora (yum install putty) repositories as a binary application. I
mentioned "should" work because on the Mac you will probably need to
compile Putty from source to get it to work. As far as a client that
works across ALL platforms that provide SSH, SCP, SFTP I haven't heard
of anything. WinSCP is available for Windows. But I have generally
used CLI SCP from file transfers.

Subject: [SECURITY] recommendations for an SSH client?

Greetings,

I would be interested in hearing your opinions about what SSH client you
prefer. I am particularly interested in a client that 1) is
cross-platform, 2) is supported by its vendor for the current versions
of Windows, Mac OS X, RHEL, and Ubuntu, 3) is free (as in free beer), 4)
has a GUI as opposed to a CLI, and 5) also offers the ability to
securely copy or transfer files. I am interested in seeing whether this
client could be linked from a local shareware site, as well as to
whether it could be included as part of a standard software image
package made available to faculty and staff. Many thanks.

Tim Cline
