I use eraser as well and it does the job for me.






If I have to erase the entire drive I use Secure Erase

It uses the actual code built into disk drives for the last eight or so years and it is a lot faster than using other 
wiping programs.  If you do use a wiping program you don't have to do anything more than 1-pass writes.  The density of 
the drives and recording formats virtually eliminate data recovery after writing over the drive one time.

        For Windows, I really like Eraser.  Does what I need and is free.  For
Linux, I use shred for individual files and Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN)
for whole disk wiping.
