Rapid7 is a network security assessment company that makes a product called NeXpose. It is a vulnerability assessment solution that is based in JAVA and XML (so perfect for Windows and Unix environments). NeXpose is being widely used at many universities around the country and we have a pricing model specifically for universities with tight budgets. NeXpose won SC Magazine's BEST VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT solution for 2006. Feel free to check out the website and the list of universities using the solution. I am not trying to promote the solution or influence the general public. I just thought the subject directly related to our product and we have a group of sales folks that directly work in the EDU space. Hope this helps. http://www.rapid7.com/ http://www.rapid7.com/customers.jsp Nick Fasano Rapid7 LLC 617 247 1717 Office 866 7 RAPID7 (866 772 7437) 781 640 7945 Mobile 617 507 6488 Fax nick_fasano () rapid7 com NeXpose - Winner of SC Magazine Awards "Best Vulnerability Management" Product of 2006. It is relatively inexpensive, but very effective. On Oct 30, 2006, at 5:06 PM, John Kaftan wrote: I am researching Security Assessment Tools and I am wondering what folks are using. I am not a Unix guy so I am sure that limits a bunch. I am looking to scan Windows XP machines, Windows 2003 server and it would be nice to be able to scan our Unix boxes. I also want to be able to scan our Cisco switches for vulnerabilities.
