The Security Boot Camp for User Services and IT Support Staff, July 19
in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the first event in the new EDUCAUSE
Seminars program, which offers lower-cost, regional, one-day seminars on
important higher education IT topics. Learn more about the program and
register for the boot camp at http://www.educause.edu/esem051.

Overview
Why is my computer not working? How do I protect my personal
information? What is an effective password? What protections are
necessary to keep my computer safe? If you work in user services or IT
support, you're probably familiar with questions like these and the
frustration of the end users who are asking them. Attend the Security
Boot Camp for User Services and IT Support Staff to learn how to
effectively address these and other frequently encountered cybersecurity
issues.

In addition to giving you a helpful introduction to common cybersecurity
issues such as phishing scams, viruses and antivirus software, and the
use of personal firewalls, this one-day seminar will show you practical
ways to approach user concerns and will raise your awareness of the
organizational requirements for improving the security of information
systems.

Intended Audience
Help Desk or User Services Staff, IT Managers, and other IT Staff who
manage host computers or support end-users technology needs.

Presenters
Rodney Petersen, EDUCAUSE Policy Analyst and Coordinator of the
EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Computer and Network Security Task Force

Mason University
