Cyber Security Awareness Month Is Here!

Today, October 1st, marks the beginning of National Cyber Security
Awareness Month.  We are excited by the support we've received from many
institutions who are working hard to raise awareness and hold events in
support of this new initiative.  Below are a few additional highlights:

*       You can download a web banner for "October is National Cyber

*       At a launch event held at the National Press Club yesterday,
Jack Suess, CIO at UMBC and Co-chair of the EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Computer
and Network Security Task Force, issued a statement that is available at

*       Cong. Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY), chair of the House Science
Committee, introduced H. Con. Res. 502 yesterday "expressing the sense
of Congress with respect to raisng awareness and enhancing the state of
computer security in the United States and supporting the goals and
ideas of National Computer Security Awareness Month."

*       The National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), which is
headquarted in the EDUCAUSE offices in D.C., has launched a redesign of
