are they personal laptops or ones owned by the school?

if they are school-owned then using  CheckPoint's SecureClient may make
sense but if they are owned by the individual it would seem rather
intrusive to do that

(btw - there is more of an issue if the laptop is used at a conference
over a wireless link - usernames & passwords get exposed real easy)
