About 1,400 current, former and prospective students at Columbia
University have been told that their personal information, including
Social Security numbers, is vulnerable following a security breach.

The university said information about the students, as well as some
current and past employees, was on three password-protected notebook
computers that were stolen from a Columbia College office on Jan. 18.
