About 1,400 current, former and prospective students at Columbia University have been told that their personal information, including Social Security numbers, is vulnerable following a security breach. The university said information about the students, as well as some current and past employees, was on three password-protected notebook computers that were stolen from a Columbia College office on Jan. 18. Columbia said in a statement that all the affected students have been notified and been offered identity theft protection services. A criminal investigation is underway.
