It was also announced that Nessus is going to be closed source. Snort will become less and less open while checkpoint makes attempts to squeeze any dollar they can out of it. I am sure they will put a nice price tag on rule updates.

                          Dear Valued Partner:

We are very excited to announce that Check Point has signed an agreement to acquire Sourcefire. We expect that this acquisition will allow us to
address growing customer requirements for a unified security offering
that integrates IPS and RNA™ with firewalls, VPNs, gateways and Security
Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions. We share a common
vision of integrating network and endpoint intelligence with network
security, and we expect Check Point’s substantial technical, financial, channel and industry strengths will allow us to accelerate our pace of
innovation while reaching a global market of enthusiastic Check Point
                        partners and customers.

Our shared passion for excellence and Check Point’s strong commitment to
Sourcefire’s employees, products, partners, customers and the Snort®
community were paramount in making this decision.

Check Point is known as one of most channel friendly companies in the
industry, and we look forward to leveraging Check Point’s expertise in
working with channel partners. Many of you are already Check Point
partners and will easily understand the value that the combination of
Check Point and Sourcefire technology will bring to the market. We
believe Sourcefire products and technologies will strengthen Check
Point’s unified security architecture and will further enhance Check
Point's position in providing customers with the most comprehensive
internal security solutions. For our partners, this means delivering an
integrated best-of-breed solution to ensure your success.

Thank you to all of our Sourcefire partners for your part in
Sourcefire’s success to-date. It was your sophisticated understanding of what it really takes to protect your customer’s networks that led you to sell and install Sourcefire products. For those partners who contributed to our extremely successful 3rd quarter, thank you! We look forward to repeating that same success during the 4th quarter, and to continuing to
work with you to provide these technologies and products as part of
                       Check Point during 2006.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory conditions and approvals and is
expected to close by Q106. You can review the press release and FAQ
documents at http://www.checkpoint.com/sourcefire. If you have any
questions, I encourage you to contact your local channel manager.

                              Sincerely,

                             Wayne Jackson
                                  CEO
                           Sourcefire, Inc.
