If RPC was implemented perfectly it would bring joy and happiness to everyone. There would be dancing in the strets, beer for everyone, parties till the wee hours of the morning! This would be such a great thing the world would stop for a day, affecting even Paris Hilton's mating schedule. This has not happened. In fact, quite the opposite. RPC is like a plague that has spread across computing leaving pain, fear, and 0wnage in its wake. I am convinced that RPC was created as a punishment that Java RMI coders will spend their afterlife developing in. "NOT JUST RPC, XML-RPC BABY!!" Aside from the hell like aspects of the demon known as portmap, linux users will then be subject to things like MS03-026 and MS03-039 which is not nearly as cool as the new rsync hole. My personal feelings about RPC aside, if a coder is to lazy to use the language he/she/it is already in, what makes you think they would use a object to do it? Besides, people do this in windows as well. Does this mean windows sucks as well? I think so! On Sat, 2003-12-06 at 21:49, Dave Aitel wrote:
It's because there's no DCOM in Unix. It's why Unix sucks. In Windows, you' d be using a COM object to do this sort of thing instead. In Unix it's impossible to expose an object to multiple languages easily, and impossible to consume that object with multiple languages. Maybe if unix had a halfway decent RPC system you wouldn't see this?
