This isn't relevant to the endpoint to endpoint communcation that you're after but one thing I never liked about Pidgin was that it save all your IM account passwords in cleartext in a configuration file the last time I used it. Not sure if this have been changed by now. On 20 January 2011 20:48, Chad Uretsky <curetsky () yahoo com> wrote:
You can use MSN or Yahoo in a more secure capacity by employing an encryption tool such as SIMP from Secway (http://www.secway.fr/us/products/simplite_msn/home.php). You just need to make sure the person on the other end is also using SIMP. Preferably not som addon to msn though. I know there is a lot of those. It's incredible I can't find this. I'd be amazed if there's no IM client that is capable of encryption.Wikipedia has a pretty good list of information about the various clients/protocols and what they offer/support. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_instant_messaging_clients http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_instant_messaging_protocols Of course using public servers isn't going to be as secure as setting up your own: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_LAN_messengers At work we are using Microsoft Communicator (since rename to "Lync"). Obviously not Open Source but: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/lync/ Thanks Mark ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Securing Apache Web Server with thawte Digital Certificate In this guide we examine the importance of Apache-SSL and who needs an SSL certificate.
