There is more than just password security to securing Cisco devices. Start with physical security: if someone has
physical access to your switches, it doesn't really matter what your password is. If you are concerned with
Authentication in particular , start looking into TACACS or Radius. Cisco's CCNA Security documentation is good start
for Cisco's views.

Not sure which model switch you have, but MD5 encrypted passwords on the
Cisco devices use the Unix crypt() scheme which uses a salt. Check your
config, and if your hash begins with $1$ then a salt was used.

Hello all, this is my first question here, I have a cisco switch where
my passwords are encrypted with MD5, I wonder if somebody knows if
this encryptions uses an iterative hashing or salting for them to be
less susceptible to rainbow table attack.

Thanks
