MD5 hashing it self is not safe, But with a salt it makes hard to break. Still not impossible. There are tools out 
there to break salted passwords with MD5.

In CISCO it is using salted passwords which start with $1. You will find three $ signs. After the second you can find 
the salt and after the third you can find the hash.

I dont know whether you can use a better hashing algorithm with CISCO. If so you better move to that.
