May we ask, what are the reasons for your boss being against open source software?
Also what sort of things were you interested in monitoring? What do you want to monitor on the clients?
We have nagios checking hundreds of servers for load/disk space/etc and all our network gear, as well as a lot of business applications (if you can script it, nagios can check it). I don't see how any of the commercial monitoring products can compete, other than the hardware centric ones from HP/IBM or Micrososft Systen Center Operations Manager (if you run a lot of MS apps like SQL/Exchange you should check it out. Licensing is a bit steep though).
Hope this helps Gareth Sent from iPhone On 22/01/2010, at 2:01 AM, Eric Ong <eric.ccong () gmail com> wrote:
Hi all, My boss is not perfer to use the Open source software, he is perfer to use some mid-class commerical software. He suggested me to review the big brother software from http://bb4.com/. Any comment? Have any good commerical software with famous brand and cost arround US$5000-6000 for 300 nodes? Are they any resource sites/ forums besides the Nagios main site or the one recommended english forum on their site. Am looking for a more comprehensive forum with some guidance on the app since I need to do some playing around and testing for work. Thanks in advance guys and sincerely appreciate the help. - BRIAN RITCHIE On Tue, Jan 19, 2010 at 6:08 AM, Lorenzo Nicolodi <lorenzo.nicolodi () gmail com> wrote:I will suggest to you this solution created by an Italian company(http://www.wuerth-phoenix.com/en/solutions/wuerthphoenix-neteye/it-monitoring/ )... it is based on Nagios and it works very well..it also include a some interesting plugins such as log management, etc...
