Have a look at Zabbix (www.zabbix.com) I've been using it for a while and love it. They just came out with an updated version (1.6 - I'm using 1.4) that I haven't migrated to yet. It's very powerful and easy to configure. Of course, if all you are looking is server uptime, then this is probably overkill.
