Absolutely John. However, I wonder if the 'listening' in of network conversations would be similar to the legal point of not expecting privacy in a public place. In fact, as far as I am aware, (US I think) you are allowed to record conversations in public places without prior consent/knowledge. Do you think this might apply to the open network we're discussing here? I'm not sure, I'd have to check... -----Original Message----- From: John Jasen [mailto:jjasen () realityfailure org] Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 12:15 PM To: Murda Mcloud Cc: 'Yousef Syed'; 'Security Basics' Subject: Re: Wireless Security Murda Mcloud wrote:
As a demo of what can be sniffed, why not setup kismet or similar and just see what you can find yourself-then you'll get an idea of what can be sniffed from your traffic.
Usual disclaimers apply. Namely make sure that the possession of sniffing tools is legal in your jurisdiction; make sure that the use of them is legal in your jurisdiction; and make sure that you have the appropriate authorizations to use them on whatever network you're using for research. -- -- John E.
