Technical Information on "wicked" IRC Bots

Greetings. 
I am looking for information on IRC Bots used by the "bad guys", e.g. used for sending SPAM, launching DOS attacks

More specifically, how are the BOTS implemented, how they are controlled, etc. Analysis of real bots would be 
interesting, like the one done on grc.com
