Hi zack, 1. A reverse proxy enables one to provide content from another web server transparently, also it can be made to improve performance by caching. 2. It enables a controlled access from the Web at large to servers behind a firewall or a DMZ. 3. It is an additional layer of defense and therefore protects the webservers further up the chain. 3. Securing a web proxy is very similiar to securing a web server or any other proxy, which depends upon logisitics of your network. 4. Apache can be used as a reverse proxy, a few others are by Netegrity,Fastream etc. I would personally recommend apache with mod_proxy. Regards, warl0ck - MSG http://www.metaeye.org
