I assume you're referring to some sort of brute-force attempt to find 
the key.  In the case of a random message, there is absolutely no way to 
verify that the decoding was properly done unless there is some pattern 
to the message (such as a language or something similar).  If the key 
was known, the only way to verify successful decoding would be to 
re-decrypt the message and ensure that you got the same result.
