This sounds like a lot of fun - does anyone know where these are being held? I'd love to attend.
CTF games are numerous and frequent, although they are mostly invite only unless being held at a conference of some sort like Defcon, BlackHat, etc. One thing you might want to do is get in touch with local user groups of security tools. For example: http://www.snort.org/community/usergroups.html?sfext=snortext There are many user groups you can get in contact with and your local LUG may be a good place to start: http://www.linux.org/groups/index.html Google is your buddy when it comes to finding groups in your area if you have no contacts yet.
