No need to use somebody's potentially malware infested app. (not that these are untrustworthy sites) Go to network neigborhood Right click on intended nic and select properties Click the Configure button Select the Advanced tab Select the Locally Administered Address (or similar sounding) Property and change it to what you like. Or you can do it via WMI with the Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration class. -Jeff -----Original Message----- From: fdegouet [mailto:fdegouet () contrhackt com mx] Sent: Friday, August 12, 2005 1:50 PM To: security-basics () securityfocus com Subject: RE: Changing the mac address on Windows 2000 and XP You can also try : etherchange : http://ntsecurity.nu/toolbox/etherchange/ macshift : http://students.washington.edu/natetrue/macshift/ Both are free... A number of network devices do contain the ability to change the MAC
address to a locally administered address. This has been a standard function for many years and has been particulary useful in the audit and administration of hardware.
In the microsoft world, check the network card driver settings for a
locally administered address and create your own MAC just make sure that it does not begin with 01 and that its not in use on your local segment
