Heck, it's a good idea for them to run one *all* the time, provided that it doesn't block what they need to function in your corporate environment. Perhaps multiple profiles could be configured, onsite and offsite.

I imagine you're using VPN clients of some type; some of these will no doubt have some kind of firewalling or filtering capability, or some kind of policy enforcement. It might not be what you need, and it probably is pretty weak. Still, investigate what you have and leverage it as much as you can before investing in another solution.

Are there conflicts beetween the two firewalls?

There shouldn't be; much the same as there shouldn't be conflicts between what kind of door you have at home and what kind of door you have at the office. Of course, YMMV. Life is full of weirdnesses.
