Try this: netsh interface ip set address "Local area connection 3" static 172.31.49.27 255.255.255.0 172.31.49.241 1 I think it might work as an standard user.. IF not... Then give a batch file run as admin rights.. Jim

Any ideas? I have a traveling user who cannot use DHCP in some environments because they hand out static IP's. I do not want to give the user Admin rights on their box for obvious reasons. How can Iallow themto change their IP address without giving them Admin rights? Thanks for your help. WThere are a few second party multiple IP change utils probably a open source one or two. One then has a icon or status bar tool, it has names like office, home, Boston, ect. not sure if they , the tools have to rights or admin needs to adjust reg rights ,or both, ect. here is one. http://www.pcnet-online.com/downloads/ipswitcherpro.htm Or ..you could upgrade to xp - it allows a alternate ip setting .. not sure of the rights issue. That could probably be adjusted agin by reg rights adjusting behind the scenes. /don -- _____________________________________________________________________ Donald W.
