What OS are they doing this on? The solution could be drastically different depending on Windows/Linux/Mac/other. Also, are you only worried about them messing up the OS, or deleting personal files (like code or reports they have written)? Once again, the answer could be very different depending on what you're trying to protect. Backing up the entire hard drive is always an option, however of course you'll lose whatever was created since the last backup. I have some other ideas, but will wait to hear the answers to the above questions first.
