I'm not going to try becoming an expert in just a few days... But I
expect I can become fairly expert in specific topics. Such as
firewalls; I beleive this topic is fairly small and could be covered
completely within a few days. Then apache, again I beleive
just a few
days should be enough to read through the entire documentation and
searching on the net/mailing lists for possible problems...

I've have security in my primary job function for over 6 years and IMHO
I'm not
an expert in any part of it. I defiantly know more in specific areas
but becoming an expert is not a short-term goal, or for me even a long
term goal :-).

I'm going to read as much as possible everyday and slowly I'll put my
system up piece by piece as soon as I can consider myself educated
enough to set it up securely.

There are some extremely educated guys on this list, even though it is a

"security basics" list. I'm not one of them, but they are here. If you
do
have any security questions I'm sure someone on the list can help you
out no
problem, but I wouldn't count on becoming an expert by reading or
studying
which is about 1/4 of a security-pro's diet. I'd say another 2/4'ths are

experience and another 1/4'th is skill.
