the network security is a very vast field and the google is a your best firend, just start searching for documentation 
.pdf file, download and start reading them... 


i would suggest Securing-Optimizing-Linux-The-Ultimate-Solution v3.pdf for a linux based envoirmnet,

there are similar books for solaris, windows and freebsd also read up something about firewalls, proxyservers, ids, 
vpns, and honey pots

this should be sufficent for the time being ...
