Can anyone impart some advice on how to maintain network integrity while maintaining my own sanity/wits?
That's something that may be learned over time, but (unfortunately) cannot be taught. After almost twenty years in the industry, I somewhat learned how to pick up useful information from the deluge of data we are all showered with daily. But this is art, not science, and I am sure I (and most of our collegues) miss good information in the avalanche... The only piece of advice I can give, make sure you do not try to know everything, but try to know where to get the piece of information you need, when you need it (MLs, NGs, and the WEB have helped a lot in the years, but PEOPLE are still the main source of information even nowadays).
