RE: NT4 Network Neighborhood

I believe the best way to do this is to use the Policy Editor to create a
policy for the users (or the group of users) that restricts browsing from
Network Neighborhood. The suggestions below work great for a couple of
machines, but in a high school environment where it is theoretically
possible for a student to login anywhere, tweak programs and registry hacks
are just not cost effective. With the policies, the settings follow the
user no matter where the logon. And there are a number of other settings
besides just browse restriction.

Microsoft's Tweak UI :
http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTwea
kUI.asp

Freshdevices' Fresh UI : http://www.freshdevices.com/freshui.html

or

Entire Network is an option under Network Neighborhood that allows users to
see all the Workgroups and Domains on the network.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Networ
k] *PER USER KEY*
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Netwo
rk] *PER SYSTEM KEY*
"NoEntireNetwork"=dword:00000001

Enabling this option hides all Workgroup contents from being displayed in
Network Neighborhood.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Networ
k] *PER USER KEY*
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Netwo
rk] *PER SYSTEM KEY*
"NoWorkgroupContents"=dword:00000001

The Network Neighborhood is shown on the Windows desktop whenever Windows
networking is installed, by enabling this setting the icon will be hidden.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er] *PER USER KEY*
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo
rer] *PER SYSTEM KEY*
"NoNetHood"=dword:00000001

Is there a registery hack to remove the Network Neighborhood from an NT4
Workstation Desktop. I'm trying to stop some high school kids playing around
on the network and this would hopefully stop a couple of them in their
tracks.

Thanks
Simon
