I've been wondering about this for a while now... Everybody knows NFS is insecure. Right. So no-one uses it. Why not simply modify NFS to use encryption? Why not?
I wouldn't say that no one uses NFS, secure or not. See here on ways to encrypt NFS traffic: http://www.math.ualberta.ca/imaging/snfs/ Here is the "Secure NFS RFC" http://csrc.nist.gov/publications/nistpubs/800-7/node184.html#securerpc For AIX: http://publib16.boulder.ibm.com/pseries/en_US/aixbman/security/secure_nfs.htm Looks like it works on BSD and Solaris: http://www.crufty.net/Products/sNFS.html
