tool for detect modems in a lan

hello,
i am looking for an automated  tool to detect modems in a lan.
in the lan there is differents OS: Windows 95, 98, Nt, 2000 worksations.

i know that there is mdmchk , but it is in perl, and there should be perl 
installed in all machines to launch mdmchk , is ther another executable 
equivalent

or another automated tool to detect modems in a lan
