Correct. syn floods just open many connections which the attacking side never completes. All these attacks try up resources, not bandwidth, but the effect is the same. A DoS or DDoS. ----- Original Message ----- From: "SB CH" <chulmin2 () hotmail com> To: <security-basics () securityfocus com> Sent: Monday, November 04, 2002 2:58 AM Subject: syn flooding attack and bandwidth consumation
Hello, all. As you know, when I received smurf attack which is icmp based attack, the bandwidth is full. But when I receive syn flooding attack, the bandwidth is full or not? As my test, the syn and ayn+ack packet size is 0. So I think that the syn flooding attack has no relations with bandwith based attack? right? Thanks in advance. _________________________________________________________________ 증권 정보 가장 빠르고 편하게 보실 수 있습니다. MSN 증권/투자 http://www.msn.co.kr/stock/
