Keith, I experience this issue too in Wireshark 1.6.3. It happens on the 64 bit Windows version and not just the 32bit version. I did not experience this prior to 1.6.3. I have found that the "Closing file..." window is a modal window and Wireshark itself has not got stuck. Hovering over the taskbar entry for Wireshark and clicking the red "X" next to the modal "Closing file..." window closes that window but allows me to continue to use Wireshark. A lazy workaround. I have observed this issue mostly when dragging trace-files into an existing Wireshark window (obviously this issue only occurs when a file is there to be closed and not from a fresh instance) Matthew On 10/11/2011 19:08, Keith French wrote:

At this point Wireshark seems to stop responding?Hello Keith, I experienced this yesterday, but it is not very easy for me to replicate. I am not sure, but it might possibly be related to the change in r39445[1], which was added to try to correct bugs 5987[2], 6323[3] and 6457[4]. Are you able to try removing that line to see if the problem goes away? If it does, then the change made to try to correct those bugs may not be the right fix.
