Paul, Not sure that there is more information to give as that is how I understand it should work. Did you specify a SSL Debug logfile in Preferences:SSL as well as the RSA key? HTTP traffic direct to the web-server or via a proxy are fundamentally the same - the proxy just has to handle the edge conditions a little differently.
