                        CERT Conference 2001
                       CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
                        August 6 - 10, 2001

International CERT Conference on Computer Security
                and Information Assurance

CERT Conference is a multi-track technical conference focusing on proven
solutions for the challenges facing security professionals. The technical
program consists of invited presentations by leaders in the field -
focusing on emerging technology, new knowledge on improving existing
technology, and tutorials on hot topics such as Intrusion Detection,
Network and System Forensics, Vulnerability Assessment, and more. The
Conference also provides many informal networking opportunities such as
Receptions, Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions, Vendor Exhibits, and other
programs that ensure you get to meet with and learn from other
professionals who share similar environments and requirements.

Experts in their field are invited to propose best methods for sharing
their knowledge with the conference.

Opportunities to participate include:

        1. Workshops (full or half-day)
        2. Short Courses (2 hours)
        3. Presentations (50 minutes)
        4. Papers/Posters
        5. Panels

CERT Conference presentations address the needs of a broad range of
attendees, characterized by four overlapping definitions:

  1. Technical-Foundations
This group is IT-savvy, but has less than one year InfoSec-
      specific experience.

  2. Technical-Exploitation
This group is already InfoSec-savvy, most interested in
emerging technogies, and the latest lessons-learned since the
      CERT Conference in September, 2000.

  3. Technical-Research
This group is active in InfoSec-related research and/or
advanced product development. Presentations at this level will
normally be augmented by participating in the Poster Session
      for more detailed discussions.

  4. Manager
This group is most concerned with risk management, policies,
disaster recovery, an similar types of topics.

Desired presentation topics encompass the broad field of information
security, including but not limited to: Intrustion Detection, Network and
System Forensics, Vulnerability Assessment, Technical Countermeasures,
Effective Planning, VPNs, Trends in Information Security, Best Practices,
Legal Issues, Ethics, Cryptography, Secure Architectures, Disaster
Recovery, Operations Security, Tools, Physical Security, and Leading-Edge
Research.

To participate in the conference sessions you must submit a short
informational brief (abstract) less than two pages in length. It should
include the complete outline you propose for your presentation. The object
of the brief is to convince the reviewers that a good presentation will result.

Academic and/or research papers will be peer-reviewed and published in the
CERT Conference Proceedings. Papers for all other types of presentations
are not required. Final presentation materials must include at a minimum an
abstract or other informational brief.

Your submission should include:

1. An author bio following the title of the presentation, including the
principal author's name, address, email, telephone number, and
the names of the other authors. Please include your affiliation as you
want it printed in the conference materials.

2. Intended audience.

3. The level of the material (beginner, intermediate, advanced, research)

4. Is this a Presentation, Panel, Short Course, or Workshop, or Poster.

5. A 5-7 line summary of your talk that we can place in the brochure and on
   the website.

6. A detailed description of the presentation.

Panel proposals should be a minimum of one page and should include the
topic(s)and objective(s) of the panel. Names of potential panelist members
should also be included. Time slots for panel sessions will be either 45 or
90 minutes. Please specify time needed.

How to submit your proposal:

is critical because we have to mail your proposal to everyone on the
program committee.
