In Nmap, this past October I switched from GNU getopt replacement
functions over to these BSD-style licensed getopt* functions[1].  I
think the license is technically MIT, but it's all essentially the same.
 The functions are all GNU compatible, so they behave like a lot of
people expect.

I'm just making note of another base to use, which seems to work well.
