Libpcap as shared object

Hi, this maybe a dump question but I did not found any answer to it: How can I compile libpcap with a shared object (libpcap.so) file? I have successfully compiled and installed it but it has only created an .a file. I have tried this command to create a shared object manually: ld -G -o libpcap.so -lnsl -lresolv -lc -z allextract This works but the shared object is not accepted by the apps using libpcap. Any hints/ideas would be pretty much appreciated. Bye and thanks, Werner. - This is the TCPDUMP workers list.
