Sorry for this newbie question but I just started using tcpdump to help me find the problem with a mail server that is deny my password and I can't see the actual text of the messages being sent and received. Am I missing something obvious?
The "-X" flag, but I'm not sure that's obvious. That'll cause the packet data to be dumped in hex and ASCII. In the current CVS version, there's also a "-A" flag that might be a bit easier to read (although it still dumps the entire packet, as "-x" and "-X" do, so there's some junk in front of the messages). I'm assuming the mail server here is something like a POP or IMAP server, where the messages and replies are ASCII text. If not, there's no text to show. - This is the TCPDUMP workers list. It is archived at http://www.tcpdump.org/lists/workers/index.html To unsubscribe use mailto:tcpdump-workers-request () tcpdump org?body=unsubscribe
